2018/2019 Wedding trends

Are you newly engaged? Looking for some inspiration for your big day?

What's the top trends you should consider for the 2018/2019 wedding season?

The 2017/2018 Wedding Trends we're excited to see!

  1. Gowns - what can you expect to see for brides in 2018/2019?
Extremes….! From super sexy, barely there gowns to the traditional, brides will have no problem finding their perfect dress. Plunging necklines, off the shoulder, flutter sleeves, ruffles, bows, two-piece crop tops, floral, capes and long trains, as well as the always popular lace.
You can even expect to see brides wearing gowns in blushes, metallics, as well as muted and bold colors, going away from the typical ivory/white wedding gown.
Sparkly gowns—gold, silver and metallic beading—flooded the bridal runways. The ball gown is making a comeback too, perfect for a formal evening wedding. Also hot? Breezy silhouettes and airy skirts. These effortless dresses (think: flowing fabrics like tulle and organza) have an ethereal vibe and are well suited for a destination affair or even a second look.
Detachable skirts, floral embellishments and off-the-shoulder looks will also be making their way down aisles this year.

  2. Accessories - We can expect to see the tiara and longer veils making their way back in 2019, along with floral crowns, headbands, and barrettes still being worn.
Also, larger statement jewelry, such as large necklaces, for the bride and bridal party is on the rise.

  3. Bridal Party - Be on the look out to see more gender mixed wedding parties.
The days of having to have all ladies on the bride’s side and all gentlemen on the groom’s side are long gone, and we love it!

  4. Decor & Styling - you can expect to see more…greenery!
Flowy cascading bouquets are still on the rise, as well as garlands being used for arches, centerpieces, staircases, and ceiling décor. Look for mixtures of high and low centerpieces, round and rectangular tables, metallics, and more ornate linens. Expect to see pops of bold shades and bright color pairings. Pantone named greenery the Color of the Year—it’s vibrant and earthy, making it perfect for all seasons. This fresh hue is symbolic of “the reconnection we seek with nature, one another and a larger purpose,” says Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. We expect to see this shade of green in everything from floral arrangements to colored linens.
Décor trends are going au naturel. If you can’t celebrate under the stars, bring the outside in. Add some oversize potted trees to a ballroom for an instant forest effect. Or incorporate natural elements like wood and stone into your table settings. Greenery (not just the color) continues to trend—it’s easy to manipulate and can give your décor an undone but beautiful look. Bouquets are getting bigger too and some old-school styles, like cascade and pageant, are making a serious comeback.
branches, lanterns, and nature-inspired décor, are more popular than ever.
Rustic - raffia ribbon adorned chairs, lanterns, branch and nature-inspired décor and sepia photo shoots, all are more popular than ever. This is the perfect choice for a DIY wedding as you can hand make the decorations such as centerpieces, handmade wreaths, hand-written invitations etc.
Vintage is still going strong and is looking to be on the top 5 hottest wedding trends for 2019. Vintage is a great option for a DIY wedding as the personal touches can be integrated into all elements on your special day, with one of the most popular being a trend towards including family heirlooms as part of the wedding décor.

  5. Games - In an effort to entertain guests, couples are turning to the tried and true: games.
From interactive Mad Lib wedding programs to lawn games at outdoor cocktail hours, games are being used as a way to break the ice between guests. This playful trend is a great way to get your friends and family mingling.

  6. Size - More couples are wanting that personal, intimate feel for their wedding.
Because of this many are choosing to have smaller weddings. While in the past the average wedding was between 150-250 guests look for more couples to have between 75-125.

  7. Cakes - Many couples are opting to have smaller wedding cakes, paired along with other desserts.
Even though the wedding cake has seen a decrease in size it has not seen a decrease in style and elegance. We are seeing cakes glammed out with ruffles and bling, naked, marbled, metallic, watercolor, monogrammed, and rustic.
Not quite frosted, not quite bare, the almost-naked cake is a perfect blend of two styles, and ideal for a less formal celebration. These confections are usually lightly iced in buttercream and topped with fresh flowers or in-season fruits that hint at the flavors of the cake filling.

  8. Dangling decor - Hanging accents are an instant wow factor, and they always get noticed.
Suspend flowers from ceiling beams or string market lights from barn rafters for added ambience. Hanging décor will get guests looking up too, which is handy if you’re trying to downplay the venue’s color-clashing carpet. Towering candelabras and organic centerpieces will continue to be popular table décor.

  9. Unique Invitations - Invitations are the first impression that each guest will have of your special day and it sets the tone for your entire event.
One of the 5 hottest wedding trends for 2018 is unique wedding invitations with 2017 trending with watercolour washes and botanical design, the 2018 focus is on raised foil, gold, silver and rose gold. Other trends are marble and agate designs, geo patterns and multi-coloured marble designs that will give a very unique look for wedding invit
